Cited sources Typical bands for this kind of business, compiled from the public sources listed under Sources and method; they are a synthesis, not figures copied from any one source. A fit if you...

  • Can earn a state applicator license or hire a certified applicator, and lead a field crew
  • Want an essential, recession-resistant trade
  • Will sell and keep service plans, not just one-time sprays
  • Can run routes, lead generation, and the numbers

Probably not if you...

  • Want a passive, absentee investment from day one
  • Dislike managing techs and early starts
  • Cannot recruit, license, and keep techs
  • Have no appetite for marketing and lead generation

Sources & Method

Figures are compiled from the public sources below; the bands are a synthesis of them, not copies

How these numbers were built: pest-control technician wages come from the BLS OEWS and OOH (SOC 37-2021, median $44,730/yr in May 2024); the recurring-revenue model is anchored to the public filings of the category leader (Rollins, Inc., parent of Orkin); production per technician and stops a day come from PestPac route data and a route-density study; the average stop blends HomeAdvisor’s monthly and quarterly visit prices; the chemicals share comes from the PCT and NPMA operating ratio survey; owner earnings, sale prices, and multiples come from BizBuySell’s pest control benchmarks; industry size comes from NPMA; financing terms come from the SBA; licensing comes from state rules (Texas as the worked example) and EPA certification standards; and survival and loan-default signals come from Census/BLS business-dynamics data and published SBA-performance analyses. The opening kit is priced line by line from franchise initial investment tables (Truly Nolen, Pestmaster), sprayer and pest supply dealers, truck pricing, and Insureon’s pest control premiums. The defaults describe a three-truck residential route company whose owner manages rather than runs a route; replace them with a real company’s numbers. Figures are current as of 2024-2026.

The field-labor anchor (BLS), the SDE margin band and multiples (BizBuySell pest control sales), production per technician (PestPac), stops a day (route-density study), visit prices (HomeAdvisor), the chemicals share (PCT and NPMA survey), and the recurring-plan share (Rollins 10-K) directly back the figures in this file, so overall confidence is sourced. The stops-a-day and ticket defaults are a blend of these sources for a three-truck residential company.
